Accounting Assistant
Purpose of Position
The Accounting Assistant supports the financial function and Accounting staff, contributing to the overall capital management and recordkeeping of the organization. This person will be primarily responsible for processing invoices received for payment and for undertaking the payment of all creditors in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
Reports to
Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC) Chief Financial Officer
Time Requirement and Pay
Full time, non-exempt position. Paid hourly with benefits. An average of 40 hours per week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Work Environment
Primary work in an office environment in MMCDC’s Detroit Lakes offices.
Responsibilities
1. Process outgoing payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
2. Performing day-to-day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable data.
3. Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure that all bills and payments are accounted for and properly posted.
4. Verify and investigate discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements.
5. Perform bank reconciliations.
6. Understand and ensure compliance as it relates to accounts payable (W-9, sales tax, etc.)
7. Record daily incoming cash, checks, and money orders. Create a written summary of the payments and facilitate a bank deposit. Accurately communicate the nature of the payments to others within the department.
8. Manage the ACH process. Initiate wires. File Journal Entries.
9. Support the annual audit process, along with grant-specific or agency-specific audits, ensuring timely preparation, accurate documentation, and responsive follow-up.
10. Contribute to team success by taking on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.
11. Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Experience without a degree will also be considered.
2. Understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable principles
        ?Preferred: work experience in accounts payable.
3. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
4. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
5. Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multitask and collaborate with internal teams.
6. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
8. Team focused attitude
