MAHUBE-OTWA is actively recruiting a Head Start HOME BASE TEACHER. Seeking a caring individual, with a strong independent initiative, and experience implementing developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood development and family support services. Partner with program staff and community resources to provide a continuum of services to children and families living in poverty from diverse backgrounds offering them the opportunity to reach self-sufficiency. Your workdays will be filled with education, laughter, art, stories, hugs and so much more. Go home each day feeling like you made a difference!
Manage case load of assigned families. Conduct home visits and work with parents to improve parenting skills by providing education on child development and modeling appropriate developmental practices. Plan and conduct activities focusing on both child and parent(s). Provide nutritional food experience or nutrition education once monthly. Assist families directly or through referrals with; health, literacy, education, housing, employment, financial literacy, mental health, substance abuse and crisis intervention services.

- Pay: $24.97 - $26.48
- Schedule: Day Shift, Monday – Friday, Full Time, Seasonal with approximately 1 month layoff in summer
- Work Remotely: Partially, travel within service area required

Requirements
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Services or equivalent coursework and have experience in the early childhood field or related field with 1-3 years of experience or a current Teaching License.
- Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and DHS licensing regulations and ability to operate in accordance with standards.
- Knowledge of early childhood development and implementing developmentally appropriate practices. Knowledge of family systems and human service providers in the community.
- Must have the ability to work positively and cooperatively with children, families, and staff as well as internal and external partners.
- Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions. Basic computer skills and basic math skills required. Must have the ability to express/exchange ideas and instructions to clients, the public or other employees.
- Must effectively manage typical and spontaneous home visit situations. Must have the ability to handle emergency situations with young children and families.
- Must honor private/confidential information.
- Must have valid drivers’ license.
- First Aid / CPR required.
- Must qualify to work with young children by completion of DHS Applicant Background Study.
