Imagine working at a pristine National Wildlife Refuge in Northern Minnesota. You’ll watch this spectacular ecosystem wake up in the spring with the woodland warbler migration, listen to the call of the loon, witness the splendor of fall leaves changing, and snowshoe under the silent pines. This is a tremendous opportunity to help children connect with nature while engaging in your own nature experiences

 Responsibilities:
• Organize and manage logistical and operational needs of the environmental education program established by the staff of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in partnership with the Friends of Tamarac (FOT) NWR.
• Conduct and maintain fall, winter, and spring environmental education curriculum for the various grade levels for partnering schools in conjunction with state standards along with environmental literacy benchmarks and indigenous knowledge.
• Continue to incorporate accessibility modifications and measures into the program, as well as Indigenous Knowledge that supports an inclusive community bond.
• Volunteer coordination is a primary component of this role, therefore, fostering an atmosphere of community, sense of purpose, and a commitment to our shared mission of connecting people with nature is key to maintaining a vibrant team.
• Supervise the recruitment and training of environmental education volunteers in conjunction with the refuge staff
• Regularly compose blogs that contribute to telling the story of Environmental Education via the Friends of Tamarac website and social media outreach.
• This is a physically demanding role that requires frequently lifting equipment over 25 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and working in a variety of weather conditions.

Employment Conditions & Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, possess a valid state driver's license, and successfully complete the required background investigation. Applicants should be comfortable completing tasks independently and within a team, have excellent time management skills, and an above average ability to adapt to changing circumstances or resolve conflicts. The ideal candidate will possess excellent public speaking/verbal/written communication skills and have an affinity for working with people of diverse backgrounds. Experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers is expected, along with a passion for the rhythms of nature.

Benefits:
This is a recurring, seasonal, part-time position funded for 10 weeks each season (fall, winter, and spring) with expected hours of 30+ hours per week at an hourly rate of $20-25/hour. The Environmental Education Coordinator is an employee of the 501c3 nonprofit organization, the Friends of Tamarac, and NOT an employee of the USFWS
