It’s not just Mother Nature putting on a show around here.

Arts & Culture

Envelop yourself in theater at the Historic Holmes Theatre, a grand remodeled auditorium. Soothe your soul with free live music at the City Park bandshell each Tuesday evening during the summer. Catch the color of an annual Pow Wow. And discover the work of sculptors, painters and potters everywhere you turn.

Community Art

In 2003, local artist Hans Gilsdorf created a four-foot sunfish sculpture. To mark Detroit Lakes’ 150 years, in 2021 Hans Gilsdorf’s design was locally produced into 150 sailboats. Area artists individually painted the sunfish and sailboats. Find both indoors and outdoors for the perfect photo op.
In 2023, Project 412 began a mission of elevating public art. Look for colorful murals painted on business buildings throughout Detroit Lakes. Art will inspire your day.
