Host Becker County Auditor/Treasurer Candidates and Becker County Recorder Candidate Forum July 29 at 7:00pm
The Detroit Lakes Area League of Women Voters, in partnership with the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a candidate forum on Tuesday, July 29 at 7:00pm for the Becker County Auditor/Treasurer office and the Becker County Recorder’s office. The forum will be held at the Detroit Lakes Public Library and will be moderated by Sharon Sinclair, an experienced League of Women Voters moderator.
Auditor/Treasurer Candidates Darin Halvorson, Mary Hendrickson and Brant Mouw have all been invited to attend. Darryl Hensel, Sandy Listul, Karen Wenner and Patty Swenson, candidates for the Recorder position are also invited to meet with voters. This will be a single forum with all candidates on the panel. Some questions will be answered by all, other questions will be specific to the office sought.
The forum is being held because the Auditor/Treasurer and Recorder races are contested on the Primary Election ballot on Tuesday, August 12, when voters will narrow the field in these two races to the top two vote-getters for each office. Voters will also be choosing their party’s nominee for from among several candidates in each party for US Senate, Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, and Attorney General.. Absentee voting is already underway at the Becker County Courthouse for those wishing to vote early. Under a 2014 change in Minnesota law, voters do not need to provide any reason for voting prior to election day. Voters can also register to vote at the same time as they vote. For more information on voter registration, to find a polling place to to obtain a sample ballot, voters can visit mnvotes.org.
