Ladyslippers of Itasca: Exploring the North Country and Itasca’s Orchids
Bring your camera because June is orchid month along the numerous trails within Itasca State Park. Join us on this special hike as we look for Minnesota’s state flower, the showy lady slipper and other orchids that may be blooming. A variety of other wildflowers will also be in bloom during our “strawberry moon” month.
Notes: Dress for being outdoors, including sturdy boots that can get wet/muddy, water, energy snack, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, insect repellent- including tick gaiters and hiking/trekking poles.
Meet at the front porch of Douglas Lodge. During this specialty hike, we will be making a loop trail (approximately 2.2 miles) following the Brower Trail along the shore of Lake Itasca to Preacher’s Grove, and returning along the bike trail, past the Jacob V Brower Visitor Center and concluding at Douglas Lodge. Optional: A longer route on the Brower Trail from Douglas Lodge to Bear Paw Campground and back (4.5 miles round trip).
